I flicked the butt to the ground and went in.

The sun hadn't yet set when she entered the coffee shop, empty as always. I could sense the dried up tears beneath hastily applied makeup – the loss in her eyes – but I didn't look up. I didn't dare. I kept my head hung, swirled my cold coffee, and prayed that I walked out of there alive.

She mumbled something to the barista as she sat down. I could feel her eyes drilling into me. A gaze that once made me feel so safe, so loved, nthis too shall pass by ~mikaeelghany

and so we choose not
to remember the possibility of failure

and so we stop walking
just sitting and watching life float by
without a say
without a cry
all the pleasure
all the pain
just skimming off the surface
barely leaving a mark

we are the same
we are afraid

afraid to punctuate our sentences
because once they end
we don't know where to begin again
